We are thrilled to announce that Um Jimal has been officially recognized as Jordan’s seventh UNESCO World Heritage Site! This remarkable addition was confirmed during the 46th session of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. Um Jimal joins the ranks of Jordan’s iconic heritage sites, including Petra, Quseir Amra, Umm ar-Rasas, Wadi Rum, Al-Maghtas (the Baptism Site), and the historic city of Salt.
Um Jimal, often referred to as the “Black Gem of the Desert,” is a testament to the rich history and diverse cultures that have thrived in Jordan over the centuries. Known for its well-preserved ruins, including ancient churches, homes, and striking black basalt stone architecture, Um Jimal offers a unique glimpse into the Byzantine and early Islamic periods.
At Zaman Tours, we are proud to offer unique experiences that showcase Jordan’s rich cultural and historical heritage. With the inclusion of Um Jimal on the UNESCO list, we look forward to providing our guests with even more opportunities to explore the fascinating history and vibrant culture of this remarkable country.
